The application stage for Schroders was as simple as most. This consisted of a CV and Cover letter only.
How to respond for success
In regard to tailoring my CV and cover letter, I ensured my CV was formatted properly in a typical 'investment banking layout'. In my opinion, the most important aspect of a CV is work experience. Students often feel they always need a lot / of relevant work experiences and whilst there is some truth to this, I think it is more about how you articulate your work experiences relevant or not. I ensured to use the C.A.R format (Context, Action, Result), as well as quantifying my impact within the work experiences I had on my CV. My cover letter was straight to the point with no 'waffle'. I used a simple structure making sure I included an 'Introduction, Why me? , Why the Schroders spring programme? , Why the investment management division? , What have I learned from my past work experiences/events with the occasional name drop.
Expect around a 2 week wait before advancing to the next stage.
Video Interview
It was a swift 5-minute interview. There were two questions to answer. I prepared by completing the practise questions as many times as I needed ensuring I answered the questions with the C.A.R structure. I completed this interview as if it was an in-person interview so I wore a smart outfit (shirt and tie).

'Why do your background and work experience make you an ideal candidate for this role?' - This question meant I had to articulate my past experiences (1-2 max) and explain what I learned from them and how this will benefit me in the spring programme at Schroders.
How to respond for success
I articulated my answers well ensuring I used the CAR structure also using strong body language. My advice would be to complete the interview as if you are there in person. DO NOT sound like you are reading off a script. Use good body language and show some facial expressions.
