PA Consulting

(2021 - present)

Day in the life

We interviewed Madeleine on what she experiences during a typical day at work. This section is to provide you with an insight into what it's really like to work as a Graduate analyst at PA Consulting.

Wake up

I wake up at 6am every day so that I have time to fit in exercise as I never have the motivation to do it after work! I always listen to the news in the morning (my go-to podcasts are BBC's Newscast and Bloomberg Westminster) to try to keep up to date with what's going on in the world. If i'm working from home I usually log in and start checking emails at 8am. When i'm in the office I usually get into work for around 8.30am.

Daily tasks

It's hard to say what my typical day looks like because no day is the same, but my early morning routine usually stays pretty consistent. I usually start my day by checking and replying to emails or messages that have come through, making sure I've made a note of anything urgent that needs my attention. Then I write out a to-do list to help structure my day and ensure that I've covered all of my key priorities. If I'm on a project I will usually have a stand-up at 9am whereby the whole project team comes together to discuss priorities for the day, any blockers to existing work or anything else people want to mention (sometimes this includes the client team but that depends on the project).

After that it's a matter of getting on with client work, dialling into client calls or project team calls, and completing any internal work that I have. Internal work refers to PA-focused things such as bid writing or business development.

Finish

I tend to finish at 5.30pm on most days. The culture at PA is if you've done all the work you need to then people respect and encourage signing off at a normal time.

Evening work

Obviously when deadlines are tight or there is pressure from a client then you work longer hours, but on average I finish at a normal time.
